Have you tried moving it to a quick select slot and tried using the quick select slot with pick? It's the first 3 slots in the inventory, pressing 1, 2, or 3 uses them. Move the old saves to the new game versions save files location, yes moving files to the new verison, make sure you load saves not in the middle of events.
